By definition nutrition support provides macronutrients and micronutrients through a tube placed into the stomach, small intestine, or intravenously (IV) for patients who are unable to eat. Enteral nutrition provides nutrients into the stomach and small intestine while parenteral nutrition provides nutrients through an IV. Having a proper understanding of nutrition support is an important professional element for any dietetic intern, new dietitian, or advanced clinical dietitian.

Everyone needs food to live, but sometimes a person cannot eat at all or adequately to sustain their metabolic functions. Under those conditions, nutrition support must be supplied in order to sustain proper metabolic function. In today’s video I introduce you to resources which teach you how to properly calculate parenteral and enteral nutrition for persons needing nutrition support.
